Why are well cared for lawns referred to as manicured but not pedicured?

The care of the lawns is basically comparable to the care of the nails which involves trimming, shaping, and polishing to be well groomed. The principles in the grooming of the lawn applies the same principles as in the care of the nails which are termed as manicure for the hands and pedicure for the feet. The term manicure however is the preferred term used based on the fact that pedicure basically means a manicure for the feet. Why are well cared for lawns referred to as manicured but not pedicured?
Because manicure means to trim or cut meticulously - and that doesn't just apply to fingernails.

Pedicure is just a modern twist on the term manicure to mean a manicure for the toenails (ped meaning feet). Why are well cared for lawns referred to as manicured but not pedicured?
Because they don't smell as bad as feet!
The most likely reason that this is referred to as being ';Manicured';, but not ';Pedicured'; Lawn Treatment, is because for the most likely reason is that there's a 'clipping' motion going with the grass cut, instead of a ';pedicure'; by just moving it by hand, if you get what I'm saying(Just touching it and giving it feeling is somewhat ';pedicure'; reference). Most of action going on is by hand, so that's why it's called a Manicure; Manicure came from the Latin words meaning manus, meaning ';hand,'; and cura meaning ';care';.

Hopefully that helped you out.
Because you clip them with your hands not your feet.
Could be because the finish work on a lawn is done with your hands not your feet.
Part of the definition of the word ';manicure';: To clip or trim evenly and closely; such as, ';His job was to manicure the hedge.';

  • Does Obama's Health care include Manicures?..because my nails need doing.?

yes, and weaves too..along with iPod, blackberries, tattoos and massagesDoes Obama's Health care include Manicures?..because my nails need doing.?
Hand and foot nails. Small toe and small finger manicures are excluded due to risk factors increasing insurance costs which have been forbidden under your plan.

You cant get those toes or fingers done under ANY legal plan anymore. The risk factors are too great.

Also, if you have it done on the street it is being done illegally and you can be fined up to $150,000 and face up to 8 years in prison.Does Obama's Health care include Manicures?..because my nails need doing.?
No, but I hope they include stomach stapling for the morbidly obese people of the red states.
The fact is that nails can cause infection. If they aren't included you should call your senator and demand it.
In his plan, he would just have the doctors cut off your legs at the hips, to cover up the problem of needing a manicure.
Can Princess define ';massage';? I may be interested.
Yes, but only for people named Katey, because you're so....special.
No but if you move to South korea you'll be covered
    Yes, but no racist colors

Manicures: do men really care about women's nails?

or is it just a personal preferance for a woman?Manicures: do men really care about women's nails?
No. Women make womens lives difficult.

I couldnt care less before. But since women mentioned it... Id prefer to see a French tip thanks!Manicures: do men really care about women's nails?
    NO!
I'm going to guess that some men do, and others don't. I'm not fence sitting, but I see that none of the guys who've answered seem to care about nails, but I have met some men who do care...not a whole bunch, but they certainly notice or take note of well manicured hands. They don't like acrylic or overly long nails, but seem to appreciate a woman who has nicely shaped and unpolished nails.
I don't care about nails. If anything, I like it better when women don't do anything to their nails. I like the natural look. Makeup, jewelery, nail polish, and so forth just aren't my cup of tea.
Not even for a second. Matter of fact I cant even remember the last time I noticed the color of a womans nails.
It is not the first thing we look at but they are part of your overall appearance. Sooner or later, men look at every aspect of a woman, not just breasts and butt.
    Noooooooo
no i think the nail thing is about competition with other women. its like penis envy, men are the ones that are jealous about what size somebody else is.
not really do I care - and suspect we care.

reasonably tidy sure - like clipped (or whatever)

you gals tend to take things to extremes.

And to be honest you gals appear to be checking each other out more than checking out how much us guys are checking you out.

just what i've observed. Just my view.
I;m not a man...but I know that nice nails are one of the things men notice. Men hate bitten or badly cared for nails....they also like clean, soft hair....not hair which is cobvered in product.
    No, No, No.
No, men don't care about women's nails, for the same reason they don't care about the type of shoes, handbag or clothes you have on.

Only other women care about those things.
have you ever had a man with ugly toes? same thing ugly toes are terrible at least a pedicure gets out the rough spots and makes your feet look better i think pretty feet are important and besides the pedicure makes you feel good and gilry
no unless their really dirty. but other wise no.
Maybe a pair of hands and/or feet with bloodred nails can be enticing, but I think it's pretty low on men's lists when considering how attractive a woman is. I only paint my nails when I feel like it.

Guys, do you care if a girl's nails are manicured?

Does it make a difference to you? Just wondering, because I keep mine neat and trim and clean underneath. Paying every several weeks to get them manicured just isn't in my budget and it's a hassle. Plus, they just seem really fake.

Guys, do you care? What do you think?

And girls, do you get your nails done regularly?Guys, do you care if a girl's nails are manicured?
I don't mind. But what I mind are those long fake nails...ughGuys, do you care if a girl's nails are manicured?
I personally don't like manicured nails done by a professional. If they are manicured that tends to say that they are a high maintenance woman.
    they don't care

I don't get them done regularly.
I don't think they really care.
    I doubt they care.

I get my done like, once a year maybe.
i get mines done once every 2 weeks

    my boyfriend doesnt care

How to take care of hands and feet? How frequent manicure and pedicure should be done?

They say every 2 -3 weeksHow to take care of hands and feet? How frequent manicure and pedicure should be done?
once in a monthHow to take care of hands and feet? How frequent manicure and pedicure should be done?
manicure when your nails break crack, and if wearing polish when it starts to peel off . pedicures sometimes turn the nails yellow .

pedicure when your feet get rough skin.
You should keep your hands and feet clean by washing them with savlon once a week.If you can't then go for manicures and pedicures once a month. While getting your nails shaped get them shaped into squares as it is in fashion these days.Put the transparent nail-polish on your hands and red (if very fair complexion) otherwise black. But the best manicure is french manicure.
Every Month u shud go for a manicure and a pedicure session.

    Hand And Feet Care:-

Keep them well moisturised and neat with nails in proper shape and size and well painted.

U can rub lemon once a week on ur hands and feet to make them fairer

U can use a mixture of glicerine and lemon at night to keep hands and feet soft in Winters.

Moreover keep them covered while in sun and use a good sun screen with a high SPF.

Not to say - keep them waxed.

Guys, do you really care if a girl has a manicure or pedicure as long as her hands/feet are not digusting?

NO. They're mainly for her sake (like makeup is).Guys, do you really care if a girl has a manicure or pedicure as long as her hands/feet are not digusting?
I think not because guys will always look at your boobs then the face, if you get what I mean.Guys, do you really care if a girl has a manicure or pedicure as long as her hands/feet are not digusting?
no, and you can also go to far, like all the fake nails and stuff, WTF?
    I really don't mind, I go for sweet/cute girls =)
exactly. i mean, it looks nice and all but it's not a ';necessity';. most of the time we don't even notice. I think it's a girl thing for other girls to notice.
I wouldn't even care, I'm not paticular on that type of stuff.
I think a girl having a manicure and/or pedicure is sexy myself it shows she is a girly girl and likes to take care of her self!
    hello.

so long as its clean :)
Polish and fake nails are not needed but clean soft hands and feet are a necessity. You should have both done every two weeks, I do. My girlfriend loves it.
I don't care if a girl has a manicure/pedicure or whatever, as long as they are clean like you said.
no, i dont care, as long as they are nice and can tolerate my awful jokes
    does not matter

GUYS!!!!!!!! Do you find girls that take care of their nails attractive, or get a manicure done?

I can honestly say that when I'm looking at a woman the nails are not the things I'm looking at.GUYS!!!!!!!! Do you find girls that take care of their nails attractive, or get a manicure done?
Basic nail care is a part of normal hygiene and hygiene is sexy. However more than that and I doubt most guys will notice (unless they have an associated nail fetish).GUYS!!!!!!!! Do you find girls that take care of their nails attractive, or get a manicure done?
no i like the body an lumps%26amp;humps!
Nails are very attractive. My girlfriend gets them done every once in a while and I always comment on how great they look. Not to mention they're awesome back scratchers. :-D

Do men care about a woman's manicure? Do they notice? (Men only answer).?

A male friend said that guys don't notice when a girl has a manicure nor do they care if her hands look nice. I am a woman, and I think men do care and pay attention to sublte details. Having nice hands just adds to a woman who already is put together.Do men care about a woman's manicure? Do they notice? (Men only answer).?
As long as they have most of their teeth, nothing else really mattersDo men care about a woman's manicure? Do they notice? (Men only answer).?
I'm also a female and thought that I would answer.

Guys may notice women's nails, but in general they consider the whole package. If you are going to put a lot of money into a set of fake nails, make sure that it is because you like them.

I would have to agree that guys wouldn't prefer a girl with completely bitten off nails that look like Fred Flintstone feet, but a nicely groomed nail with or without nailpolish probably would be just as nice as the long French manicure.

I do my nails for me and get more compliments from women than from men. It makes me feel feminine or sassy depending on the color. Those two things are all for me... who cares if the guys notice if I love it.
Ok - I am not a man but thought I would give you my observations.

It seems that guys see all of you. They do not notice the details like a new manicure or accessory. They just say you look beautiful. Rarely are comment on specific things like a new manicure or pair of shoes.
i don't think men care to much so long as u take care yourself , but i must say i did get my nails done for a party a few months bk (as mine are short so gt sum fake 1's just to try them ) %26amp; my hubby liked them alot , lol
nah men dont give a ****.

    i care and i dont.

do you have to go get a manicure have it professionally done, no.

should you groom yourself and make sure your nails are trim maybe paint them or just take care of them in general yes. i pick up on that.
men don't put much thought about woman's fingernails. Hands yes not fingernails but much less than face, butt, breasts, and hair.
not all one , only few people looks girls hand , while talking some times guys watch girls nails , but they wont remember it they just a look den forget ,
I doubt that guys notice. At least I've never heard one comment on mine. I get manicures for my own pleasure.

I love the look of a french manicure and long nails, but I don't care for acrylics because they feel so heavy.

Other than growing out my nails and painting them all the time, is there any other options for something thats there to stay for awhile.?I love the look of a french manicure and long nails, but I don't care for acrylics because they feel so heavy.
yes.. its called a silk wrap. what they do at the salon is apply a white tip (for a french look) and then add one layer of brush on glue, after the glue they apply a piece of silk wrap that covers your entire nail and then they apply another layer of glue and then they dry the glue. when the glue is dry they will add about two more coats of glue. it looks great, its not chunky like acrylics, you never have to polish because it looks like a french manicure, it lasts a long time, and it doesn't damage your natural nail.

i HIGHLY recommend getting silk wraps over acrylics. they cost about $50 at some places but its well worth it.I love the look of a french manicure and long nails, but I don't care for acrylics because they feel so heavy.
Sure, you can buy the glue on ones, but they only last a week
sally hansen sells do-it-yourself french manicure kits. ive used them before they work pretty good, just make sure you use a good quality clear coat to seal it.
Growing them would be best cause acrylics causes fungus and messes up your natual nails
nope acrylic is the way to go, and I have had them for years without any problems
you should probably ask for a very light shade of acrylic and they will make it look like your nails
no not really...personally i dont think long natural nails look good even if they are done professionally! sorry :l just try the fake nail tips they look alot better
look for a Tammy Taylor salon---not just one that uses Tammy Taylor products, but one that does the Tammy Taylor process on the nails---they don't drill and can do an overlay on your natural nails (which ends up being thin and very natural looking). they use a white acrylic for the tips, then a pink acrylic for the nail bed--you don't even have to use a clear polish, just buff them for a natural french manicure look:)
nope not that i know of...sorry..lol
    Press on nails.
not rily...if u find a way let me no!!!! lol....

Do guys even care when a girl has an awesome manicure?

Actually yes....I love nicely manicured nails on a girl...topped off with black or red nail polish..Do guys even care when a girl has an awesome manicure?
They do when we scratch them down their backs!

How 2 take care of my nails-i took off my artificial nails-i like french manicure?

If you took off the nails, then all you can do is put them back on for your nails to have the french manicure look. If you have had artificial tips applied, find someone who will sculpt a nail. Then it will be much stronger, and much less likely to get infection under the tip.

  • Nail Care/ Manicure Etiquette?

Here's the deal-all my life(yup-all 21 years of it!) I've never quite known how to cut/shape my nails. Some say cut straight across, others say curve around the top of the nail and this just leads me with a headache! Plus I don't know how short I should cut them! So, to make a long story short-i've decided to get a manicure to see once and for all what my nails should look like so I can do it myself after that!

My question is this-should I cut my nails a bit before the manicure? Or leave them? What is the proper manicure etiquette? Are there secret rules women have? If so please share! Even if you think its common courtesy/knowledge please share anyway! I'm a guy! We're oblivious!!!Nail Care/ Manicure Etiquette?
Its fine either way because part of the manicure is to shape the nails. Sometimes its best to leave them if you are not sure as this means instead of you accidentally mishaping them. Everybody's nails are different. The best way to know what shape to shape them is to look at the bottom of your nail and see what shape that is

Enjoy your manicure, it really will make a difference to your nails. I used to be a manicurist

My nails break! it is terrible. I had a manicure and I try to take good care of them?

I had a manicure and my nails were just out of this world, I am like so in love, girlie and pretty. But in the last few days I had two of them break. I loved seeing them rounded and fem. Now it looks like a cow chewed them off! Yuck!My nails break! it is terrible. I had a manicure and I try to take good care of them?
Use a nail strengthener Revita Nails, many people I know used it and I have to say all of them would have great feedbacks about it.

Also ask them to buff lightly on the top of your nails and not to much. This can thin and weaken your nails.

Also they should be using natural nail filer.

Most salon buff to much or use the acrylic nail filer and that will cause your nails to break. My nails break! it is terrible. I had a manicure and I try to take good care of them?
There are special nail polishes in any local CVS that are designed to straighten nails. All you have to do next time you get a mani is either bring this polish with you or ask about their nail strengthening polishes. They can put this polish as a base coat, and then a normal color on top. Hope this helps =D
just be careful what you do. like...don't type on the keyboard, don't play sports, (though sports are amusing ^^) and don't get into fights. (lol)
Try using Dr Lewinn stuff. I don't have the same problem but I know someone who did. She started using nail hardener from Dr Lewinn (it's a brand) and now her nails are really strong and never break.
My mother swears by taking vitaming/mineral Biotin. My sister swears by eating peanut butter.
drink more milk or eat more yogurt... get more calcium somehow. That'll help your nails grow in stronger.
calcium and use some of that protecting coat stuff from sally hanssen

Manicure care kit- where to buy?

I received a Revlon manicure care kit back in the late 60s as a Christmas gift. When I was in grade school, nail polish was not allowed. My mom bought me a Revlon manicure care kit. It has a buffer, cream and, I think a cuticle remover. It was a basic kit, but it was great! Does anyone know where I can buy something like this? Or, do I have to buy the items separately?Manicure care kit- where to buy?
go to sally beauty supply store. they have everything you need! :]

    hope i helped! :]

Taking care of a manicure and acyrilics?

I just got some acrylics dones at the nail salon today. Any tips on keeping them pretty? I have two kids, but my hubby wanted to pamper me. Advide plz?Taking care of a manicure and acyrilics?
Dont use nail polish remover with acetone in it, it will eat away at your nails and make them kinda sticky. Get them filled in about 2 weeks. Other than that, leave them alone. If on breaks or comes off for whatever reason, don't try to fix it youself, go back to the salon. Don't change the color yourself, have the salon people do it for you.Taking care of a manicure and acyrilics?
if your not used to having pretty nails, just be careful not to hit them on anything, and when you put your hands in water, wear gloves, and just be sure and get them filled every two weeks or so....good luck
I wore acrylics for over ten years and just quit in May. I loved them because my nails always looked great and I never really had to do anything with them. The only pain was the every other week fills. That is what you need to do in order to keep them looking good.

    Enjoy!!!

What are the different types of screws used in the making of pedicure, manicure & other beauty care instrument

we are just starting in the manufacturing of manicure, pedicure instruments and beauty care scissors and items used in saloons. Our customers are asking us about the difference in special screws and standard screws that we are to use in our manufacturing and their costs. since we are just starting this business, we are not even aware of what they mean by different types of screws. Can some one guide us about this issue? What are the different types of screws used in the making of pedicure, manicure %26amp; other beauty care instrument
Wouldn't the best thing to do be to buy some of these tools and examine them yourself? Obviously you don't want to make exact copies (patents) but at least you'd know where to start. Alternately, contact a company who distributes those type of things and talk to them.

-I gotta hand it to you, of the all the questions I 've seen on here, yours is definitely the oddest! Andf what an odd place to ask such a specific question

    good luck!
